Room to Read

Sometimes Australian Summer Daytime TV stinks!
I wanted a break, so I went and watched the Oprah Show today only to find it was a 2007 re-run. I wanted to watch something as I ate my lunchtime Tofu and only Kevin Rudd was on all the other channels with the Australian Government's rescue package - good but didn't go with the tofu! Oprah's session turned out to be a great session. Truly inspiring and the one I had to watch!
John Wood, an ex-Microsoft Executive was talking about his mission to bring Books, Libraries, and Schools to the poorer peoples of the world. Go and have a look at his interview with Oprah. He has set up the "Room to Read" Organisation (see website above) and his target is to have 20,000 libraries by 2020. He is well on the way!
Oprah introduced this program with the following question: "Do you know what your calling is? Every person on earth has one—something unique, something only you were born to do. "That's your real job, to figure out what is your calling and then begin to honor it," Oprah says." (Source: website
On reflection, my passion is to inspire teachers to make great WebQuests to motivate students to think about their world and to solve its problems - they are numerous. I would love to see a lot more children loving school and feeling motivated to learn. I would also like to create many more WebQuests myself. Maybe this is too high an ideal but I'm slowing getting there!
These are the words that I would like to live by....Explore, Learn, Communicate, Motivate, Think, Solve
